Fritz Hansen: A Legacy of Modern Classics

Fritz Hansen Kaiser idell Lamp Collection

With a history that spans 140 years, Fritz Hansen is one of the world's top furniture producers, creating many of today's most coveted modern classics.  This is the place where Arne Jacobsen's Ant, Egg and Swan chairs were born.  Some 60 years later, the company continues to produce new works that are on their way to becoming the modern classics of the 21st Century.

Fritz Hansen Minuscule Collection

Beautiful works by award-winning Danish designer Cecilie Manz a part of a new furniture collection defined by the simple under-stated style that you would expect from Scandinavian design.

Manz's new Minuscule chair marries formed plastic with a beautifully upholstered inner shell in some of today's most popular shades.  The rust orange is my absolute favorite, a definite nod to Tangerine Tango which is at the top of every product designer's color palette this year.

The Minuscule lounge table also features a plastic base, and a white laminate top that adds to the modern look.

The most distinctive pieces in the new collection come from designs from the 1930s.  Then, German silversmith Christian Dell designed these gorgeous lamp forms. The new collection, Kaiser idell, features table, floor, pendant and wall lamps.  The forms are absolutely sculptural.  I am a huge fan of furniture that has an artistic bent to, and these lamps are definitely works of art.

You can view these new designs, and a range of some of the world's most beautiful furnishings at Fritz Hansen.  And be sure to read up on the company's history too.  It's a nice refresher on how some of the most iconic modern furnishings were created.
