Not everyone may know this about me, but I'm a country girl. I have small town roots, growing up in Harleysville, PA, an hour outside of Philly. Sometimes I enjoy getting back in touch with the things that made small town living so much fun - wide open spaces, lush gardens, and even passing a farm or two with horses and cows grazing the fields. While I absolutely love the city life, it's always nice to get away and enjoy a little bit of the country and outdoor living. A visit to Terrain at Styer's last week did just the trick.
I was excited to join Anh-Minh Le and Alexis Birkmeyer of Anthology Magazine on their road trip to Terrain. While the store is about 30 minutes outside of Philly, I had never had the opportunity to go, and was looking forward to seeing another Urban Outfitters Inc. company in action. A walk inside, and Terrain was everything I imagined and more. Imagine Anthropologie for gardeners. The displays, the pieces, and the plants were absolutely beautiful. It was as if we landed in gardening heaven, and I wanted to waste away the day there for hours.
Terrain is beyond your normal nursery. While there are hundreds and hundreds of plants to choose from for your garden, there are also fantastic decorative pieces that you'll want to take home whether you are a city or country girl.
I fell in love with these perfectly patterned ceramic trays. How nice would these be as serving dishes for your next party?
And pierced Moroccan lanterns were throughout the store. I have to get one of these for the rooftop deck this summer.
Of course, the outdoor furnishings were also stunning.
The seating offered bright bursts of color among all of the greenery and rustic elements.
Gorgeous displays were everywhere, made of reclaimed wood and old pallets.
Here you could pick out stationery, and the perfect gift for the gardener in your life.
For those in the mood for a little spring cleaning, there were loads of beautiful bath items, from soap dishes to sponges.
And many of the items were presented in simple and understated packaging that let the product inside shine through.
For those who were planning to buy some veggies from the garden and whip up a quick meal, there were some nice culinary pieces. I really like these "pinch" "dash" bowls. Aren't they adorable?
I also couldn't get enough of the rows and rows of beautifully canned goods - pickles, peppers, preserves, and my favorite - yummy, yummy jam. I couldn't resist going home with a jar of Bonnie's Jams, and let me tell you I put it on my toast every morning and it is the best jam I have ever had in my life!
As if the canned goods weren't enough, the food inside Terrain's cafe is absolutely delicious. All of the dishes are made fresh daily from local ingredients. I enjoyed the mushroom soup, and a rich chocolate lava cake at the end of our lunch.
I am so glad I went along with Anh-Minh and Alexis to Terrain. It was a great time with great friends. For anyone who lives in Philly, or is coming to visit, Terrain is definitely a must-see.

ReplyDeleteI adore Terrain's website and the store looks amazing! I'd want to live there! Thank you for sharing your visit. I don't come to Philadelphia often but have been hoping to go later this summer to the Please Touch Museum with my 2 year old so perhaps I can stop there too.
ReplyDeleteQuiana you definitely should. The Please Touch Museum is great, and there's also the Franklin Institute that could be fun for a little one. I hope you visit our fine city soon.
