fucshia bedding amenity

I love the modern organic lifestyle that Amenity promotes. Their absolutely beautiful collection of bedding, pillows and prints, offers modern design that is non-toxic and made with environmental sustainability in mind. Printed and sewn in Los Angeles, where the company is located, Amenity shows us that modern can be beautiful, and more important, environmentally friendly.

birdseye_fuschia bedding amenity

Their latest piece is the limited edition Birdseye print bedding in fuchsia. The bright pop of color tempered by dove grey will take center stage in the bedroom. And even though it's limited edition, I have a feeling that this lovely print is going to be around for some time.

Visit Amenity for more items offered in new color palettes. And enter code "enjoy" at checkout for 25% off their collection from now until June 1st.

Also, Vivre has extended their Memorial Day sale until midnight on Friday. I'm sure you can find some luxe accessories to go with the amazing new bedding you buy this weekend.

And The Winner Is....

BR City Stories Giveaway Winner

Iris, thank you so much for sharing your city story, and congratulations on winning a $100 Banana Republic gift card!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who entered. It was wonderful to read your city stories and to hear about the many places where people find inspiration, whether in a Santa Fe marketplace or in an airplane flying between cities. Iris, I absolutely loved reading about what inspires you in Jackson, Mississippi:

I live in the small city of Jackson, Mississippi and this is where I get my inspiration. I work downtown as a paralegal in the area of criminal law. At lunch I walk to the park to get out of the office, get some sun and people watch. It gets my mind off what I do and reminds me that people are generally good and that I am blessed to have my life and my freedom. Downtown is buzzing with creativity and soul and there's no end to the boutiques, art galleries, design studios and chic offerings you can find. These places inspire my style and always put a smile on my face. I've grown to realize, there really is no place like home for inspiration or otherwise.

And I agree, there really is no place like home when it comes to inspiration. To receive your gift card, please send your name and address to aphrochicblog@yahoo.com.

Lemlem at J. Crew

lemlem

I was so excited when AphroChic reader, Brandie, told me know about Lemlem, a beautiful line of children's clothing designed by supermodel and International Goodwill Ambassador Liya Kebede. And I was even more excited when I found out that J. Crew had partnered with Liya to offer a selection of the Lemlem clothing line in its Crewcuts Collection.

Lemlem at J. Crew

Handmade in Ethiopia from natural cotton, Lemlem offers playful and modern clothing for infants, children and women "with a spirit undeniably African".

Lemlem, meaning "bloom" or "flourish", is a modern expression of ancient Ethiopian techniques that include embroidery and hand weaving. Started as a way to support Ethiopian weavers and preserve ancient techniques, Lemlem offers a collection of delicate and handcrafted pieces that will be loved for some time.

J. Crew loves Lemlem and I have to say, so do I. With beautiful handcrafted items, a wonderful purpose and Liya's leadership, Lemlem highlights the absolute beauty of African design and is helping weavers in Liya's home country flourish.

Thank you for sharing Brandie!

And remember, this is the last day to leave your comment for the Banana Republic City Stories Giveaway. The winner will be announced on Friday!

Banana Republic City Stories Giveaway!

CitySoundsAlbumCover

Banana Republic's City Stories campaign has partnered with AphroChic to host a special giveaway just for you!

The Banana Republic City Stories campaign, featuring nine musical talents, including Ayo, Esperanza Spaulding and Sara Bareilles, has just released a new compilation, City Sounds. A new digital album featuring never-before-heard tracks, City Sounds features a diverse musical soundtrack with acoustic soul, modern jazz, pop and indie rock. The album is currently available in stores with any BR purchase.

To promote their new compilation, each artist was asked about their favorite songs, music venues and the cities that inspire them. Here is a look into the music, the culture and the places that inspire one of my favorite artists, Paris-based R&B songstress, Ayo.

ayo_br

Question 1: What are your 3 favorite music venues to hear music and why?

- Olympia, Paris, France - I was lucky enough to be able to play at the Olympia (13 times by the end of February 09)! It is a mythical place where the greatest artists of all times have performed and it is located in a mythical city. Paris has my heart and Olympia keeps me humble.

- Sylvia’s, Kohln, Germany - Very cool venue in a city that is omnipresent in my life. I grew up partly around Kohln. It is also a place filled with music and open to non-traditional types of artists. Big Reggae music scene as well.

- Hiro, New York, NY - I had a great show there last summer. Great vibe and setting. You get a warm feeling in there and the audience is very close to you while you perform.

Question 2: What are your three favorite places to eat in a city and why?

- La Tontine d’Or, Paris, France - Good African restaurant where they serve good fish. Simple setting, really nice staff.

- Any Turkish restaurant, Hamburg, Germany - Hamburg has a big Turkish community and therefore restaurants.

- Bombay, Talkie, New York - I am a vegetarian and they offer a delicious and wide selection of meat-free dishes that even meat-lovers like!

Question 3: What are your three favorite city spots to go to for inspiration?

- Fort Green, Brooklyn, New York - My inspiration does not come from a specific spot necessarily. I travel a lot and I am always inspired by what I experience on a daily basis. This whole neighborhood brims with creative energy. It is one of the best areas in NY to hang out, listen to music, eat, see art galleries, watch people and be inspired.

- Hotel Particulier, Paris, France - An incredible hotel filled with art deco but where you feel at home. It is magnificent and peaceful and in the heart of the amazing neighborhood of Montmartre.

-Ocho Rios, Jamaica - I love the sea, I love the food in Jamaica especially since I am a vegetarian. Great organic food. And last but not least because of the music.

Question 4: Where do you hang out after the show?

- Any French pancake shop, Paris, France - I love what the French call ‘crepes” (French Pancake). You can buy them to go in stands all over Paris. Delicious with chocolate spread!

- Hotel or Home – Depending on where my show is, my first thought is to get back to my son!

- Tour bus - That comes with the territory when you tour a lot. It becomes your home away from home. Good time to hang with the band and crew family style.

Question 5: How do you describe your style?

My style is eclectic but always comfortable. Like my cultural heritage, I draw from very many clothing styles. I can mix designer (big and small) tops and or shoes with a nice pair of slim jeans or leggings or wear a designer dress with simple flats and almost no jewelry.

Question 6: What’s the one piece of clothing you don’t leave home without when you go on tour and why?

Scarves! I have so many! Great to cover a bad hair day or around the neck, or waist, or as a shawl…It is simply a great accessory!

So, now that you've heard Ayo's, what is your city story? On Friday, May 22nd, one lucky reader will win a $100 Banana Republic gift card! To win, answer the following question in the comment section and include your name and e-mail address.

What is favorite city/spot to go to for inspiration and why?

The winner will be announced on Friday, May 22nd. Hope you win!

{This giveaway is limited to the United States and Canada. Artists favorites interview with Ayo was provided by Banana Republic.}
